Today marks 75 years of the European Convention on Human Rights — a landmark treaty that established a shared commitment to protect human dignity, freedom, and justice across Europe. Signed in Rome on 4 November 1950, in the aftermath of World War II, the Convention became a foundation of the post-war order built on democracy, the rule of law, and respect for every individual. For decades, the Convention and the European Court of Human Rights have stood as a safeguard for millions, providing accountability, upholding fundamental freedoms, and promoting peace across the continent. Today, these principles face uncompromised threats. The Russian Federation, once a party to the Convention, has been expelled from it in 2022, and continues its genocidal war against Ukraine. Russia has since committed numerous documented war crimes in Ukraine. Russia’s war is not only an assault on Ukraine but also an attack on the very foundation of Europe’s and global human rights system. It seeks to destroy the basics that have guaranteed peace and justice for generations. As we commemorate this 75th anniversary, we call on all democratic nations to reaffirm their commitment to the principles of the Convention — to uphold accountability for war crimes, defend human rights, and protect the values that define the democratic world: freedom, dignity, and justice for all.

The strength of this woman is extraordinary. Lyubov Yarosh is 105 years old. She survived the Holodomor of 1932–1933. Today, she is one of the oldest volunteers in Ukraine. With faith and concern, Lyubov follows Ukraine’s struggle for freedom — her grandchildren are serving in the Armed Forces. We remember the Holodomor. The Ukrainian people are enduring another genocide today in the war against the Russian aggressor. The Ukrainian World Congress extends its gratitude to the Holodomor Museum for its partnership in creating this video and conducting the interview with Liubov Yarosh, helping share these important memories with the world. 🎥: Holodomor Museum, 1+1.

🇨🇿 We warmly congratulate all Czechs and friends of the Czech Republic around the world on Independence Day! The Czech Republic, one of Ukraine’s closest allies and steadfast supporters, has always held a special place in the hearts of Ukrainians. Our nations are united by over a thousand years of shared history and culture, mutual support, and sincere friendship. It was in Kyiv that the Czechoslovak Legion, which fought for the liberation of Czech and Slovak lands from Austro-Hungarian rule, was formed. From here, the founding father and first President of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, who deeply admired the Ukrainian national liberation movement, led the Czech and Slovak struggles for freedom in 1917. Since the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, the Czech people have stood firmly by our side. The Czech Republic’s remarkable assistance since February 2022 has been crucial in helping Kyiv resist Russia’s full-scale invasion. The Czech Republic also remains one of Ukraine’s strongest advocates on its path toward the EU and NATO. We will never forget this unwavering support and are deeply grateful to the Czech people for opening their hearts and homes to thousands of Ukrainian refugees who were forced to flee the horrors of war. Happy Independence Day, dear friends!

🇦🇹 Today marks Austria’s National Day! The Ukrainian World Congress warmly congratulates our Austrian friends and friends of Austria around the world, joining them in celebrating this special occasion. As Ukrainians, we express our sincere gratitude to Austria for its comprehensive political, economic, and humanitarian support to Ukraine, as well as for offering safe refuge to thousands of Ukrainian women and children who fled the war. We deeply value the friendship between our nations and the rich historical and cultural ties that have connected our peoples for centuries. Today, Austria remains a steadfast partner of Ukraine — supporting our pro-European reforms, condemning Russian military aggression, and standing with Ukraine in pursuit of a just and lasting peace. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Government and people of Austria for their continued support and wish them a joyous and meaningful National Day!
